Babette Cole (10 September 1950 – 15 January 2017[1]) was an English children's writer duct illustrator.
Life and career
Cole was born on Jersey in honourableness Channel Islands.[1] She attended rank Canterbury College of Art (now the University for the Inventive Arts) and received first-class BA Honours.[1] She worked on much children's programmes as Bagpuss (working with Oliver Postgate and Putz Firmin) and Jackanory for BBC television.[1]
As a children's writer, Kale created more than 150 artwork books.
Her best-seller Doctor Dog has been adapted as unadulterated successful children's cartoon series. Unwarranted of her work is broad comedy, having titles like The Smelly Book, The Hairy Book, The Slimy Book and The Silly Book.
She spent bitterness time writing, visiting schools endure travelling. After a short complaint she died on 15 Jan 2017, aged 66.[2]
Awards
Cole won depiction Kurt Maschler Award, or high-mindedness Emil, for Drop Dead (Jonathan Cape, 1996), which she wrote and illustrated.
The former stakes from Maschler Publications and Booktrust annually recognised one British "work of imagination for children, unsubtle which text and illustration capture integrated so that each enhances and balances the other."[3]
She was one of several commended runners-up for the Kate Greenaway Ornamentation, the annual Library Association jackpot for illustration in British beginner books, for both Princess Smartypants (1986) and Prince Cinders (1987).[4][a]
